Caroline van der Starre is a PhD candidate with a strong academic background in biomedical sciences and epidemiology. She strives to contribute to socially relevant scientific projects and to communicate her findings in ways accessible to both academic and broader audiences. She values the integration of quantitative and qualitative research methods to gain a comprehensive understanding of clinical outcomes as well as the lived experiences and perspectives of study populations. Caroline is currently conducting her PhD at the Netherlands Comprehensive Cancer Organisation (IKNL), which maintains the Netherlands Cancer Registry - a nationwide database comprising information on all newly diagnosed cancer patients in the Netherlands. Her work is mainly focused on prostate cancer. As part of her PhD, Caroline has been responsible for initiating and coordinating the RECOVER study, a large multicentre project currently ongoing in 29 Dutch hospitals. The RECOVER study aims to evaluate and compare treatment strategies for men with high-risk prostate cancer - surgery versus radiation therapy - with a primary focus on patient-reported outcomes, including health-related quality of life and functional outcomes. By prioritizing patient-reported outcomes, her research aims to enhance clinical decision-making and support patients in making well-informed treatment choices. In addition to her research, Caroline is involved in academic teaching within the Master’s program in Medicine at Radboudumc, where she teaches scientific research methodology. Through her teaching, she supports the development of future medical professionals in evidence-based practice and critical engagement with medical research. Caroline is recognized for her organized, enthusiastic, and resilient approach to work, and is known for her positive, team-oriented attitude. In her free time, Caroline enjoys travelling, hiking, cooking and reading - hobbies that complement her analytical mindset and sense of humour
