Nicolò Landini was born on 01/09/1987 in Bentivoglio (BO), Italy. After finishing the Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Astrophysics in 2011 and the Master’s Degree in Physics 2014, the doctorate study in Physics lasted from November 2015 to the end of 2018, and kept on working as a post-doctoral researcher in the University of Ferrara until 2022, under the supervision of Prof. Cesare Malagù. The topic was the study of nanostructured chemoresistive sensors applied to oncologic and medical fields, by detection of metabolites exhaled directly from cell cultures and other biological samples (human blood and human tissues donated from the surgery room). Those studies were aimed to the perfecting of the array of sensors hosted by a patented device (SCENT B1), so to define the statistics to train the custom-made software, needed for SCENT B1 to work properly as a screening device, suitable for the medical use: 1) Fibroblasts, HEK-293, CHO, A549 and HCT 116 have been the cell lines studied with good results on tracking their proliferation 2) Human blood samples from donors affected from colorectal and stomach cancer, some already metastasized, have been confronted with samples from healthy donors. Sensors have been able to greatly distinguish the two populations, depending on the dimensions and degree of degeneration of the neoplasms 3) Specimens of tumor and healthy tissues, sampled from donors undergoing surgeries, allowed to observe the production of tumor markers directly. Sensors reliably distinguished healthy from tumor affected populations He is since 2023 to this day a data manager at the “UOSD Screening oncologici, Epidemiologia e Programmi di promozione della salute” of the Local Health Agency (AUSL) of Ferrara, working on innovative screening protocols for HCV virus, colorectal cancer, mammary cancer, prostate cancer and cancer of the cervix. He published 17 scientific papers, with 333 citations and an h-index of 12 (Scopus data, 30/6/2025)
