Andrea Gini (born in 1987, Soave, Italy) completed his secondary school education in 2006 at the Liceo Scientifico Angelo Messedaglia of Verona. The same year he started studying Statistics at the University of Padua, obtaining his B.Sc. in 2009 and his M.Sc. in 2012 with a specialization in Econometrics. He did an internship at the Azienda Ospedaliera Universitaria of Verona, performing analyses of the hospitalized patients diagnosed with cancer. From 2013 to 2015, he worked as junior researcher in the unit of epidemiology and biostatistics at the Italian National Cancer Institute of Aviano (IRCCS-CRO). There, he collaborated in evaluating: the impact of cervical cancer screening in Italy (IMPATTO-CERVICE study); the association between diabetes mellitus and risk of developing cancer; and the effect of life-style factors on the prostate cancer prognosis. In 2016, he started his PhD at the department of Public Health at the Erasmus University Medical Centre (EMC) in Rotterdam. During his time at EMC, he performed research with the MISCAN-Colon model on the impacts of colorectal cancer screening on quite different populations (including childhood cancer survivors and individuals with Cystic Fibrosis). He also standardized the model structure of the MISCAN-Colon, developing an online user-friendly version of that model (the EU-TOPIA screening evaluation tool). He defended his PhD thesis in 2020 and in the same year he started working as postdoctoral fellow at the International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon. His current research is focused on studying childhood cancer prevalence and the risks of subsequent cancer among childhood cancer survivors in Europe.
