Nena completed her undergraduate studies in Nutrition and Dietetics at Harokopio University, Athens. Then, she received an MSc in Nutrition and Health, specializing in Epidemiology and Public Health, from Wageningen University in the Netherlands. During her MSc studies, Nena completed an internship at the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC). In 2017, Nena started her PhD studies at the Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Prevention Institute (EBPI) of the University of Zurich and the cancer registry of the Cantons Zurich, Zug, Schaffhausen, and Schwyz. During her PhD, she also completed a project as a visiting researcher at the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). Nena defended her PhD on the epidemiology of breast cancer in situ at the end of 2020. She continued working at EBPI as a postdoctoral researcher, focusing on various health-promoting guidelines and diet sustainability and their link with cancer. In 2022, Nena joined the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) as a Scientific Officer working in the Nutrition and Food Innovation unit.
