Eunhye Park is an Associate Scientist in the Cancer Registration & Surveillance Department at the National Cancer Center in South Korea. Dr. Park is a specialist in preventive medicine with a PhD in epidemiology. Her research is dedicated to identifying social determinants of health that influence disease distribution within populations and improving health equity, with a focus on regional health inequalities. Dr. Park’s doctoral research, titled “A Study on Establishing a Spatiotemporal Model-based Cancer Incidence Surveillance System in South Korea,”aimed to develop a surveillance system using spatiotemporal models to analyze cancer registry data across different regions, providing insights into regional disparities in cancer incidence. Currently, Dr. Park's work primarily involves investigating cancer incidence rates in small areas to understand regional gaps in cancer burden and healthcare access. By employing advanced methodologies, such as Bayesian hierarchical models, her research seeks to identify factors contributing to regional health inequalities and support targeted public health interventions to reduce these disparities. In the future, her research will expand to examine cancer survival rates in small areas, aiming to gain a deeper understanding of regional disparities in healthcare services. She is eager to deepen her understanding of analytical methods specific to cancer epidemiology, explore methodological alternatives, and learn from successful case studies where research has led to effective cancer prevention policies. Dr. Park looks forward to collaborating with cancer epidemiologists worldwide to develop innovative strategies that address regional health inequalities and advance the field of cancer epidemiology.
