Antonella Zucchetto, was born in Pordenone (Italy), 1977. She has earned her Ph.D. in Biomedical Statistics at the University of Milan, Faculty of Medicine, Milan (Italy) in 2015. She earned her Master Degree in Statistical, Demographical, and Social Sciences at University of Padua, Faculty of Statistics, Padua (Italy), in 2001.
Since 2021, she works as a free-lance biomedical statistician, research consultant for the Cancer Epidemiology Unit of “Centro di Riferimento Oncologico (CRO) di Aviano, IRCCS”, Aviano, Italy.
From 2017 to 2020, she held a position as a senior biostatistician at the Technical-Scientific Secretariat of the Ethics Committee of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (CEUR) Region at CRO-Aviano, Italy.
From 2003 to 2017, she worked as a research statistician at the Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit of CRO-Aviano, Italy.
In 2015 she was adjunct professor of Medical Statistics for the Bachelor Degree in Nursing, University of Udine, Faculty of Medicine, Pordenone (Italy).
From 2004 to 2011, she has been adjunct professor of Epidemiology for the same Bachelor Degree in Nursing.
During her work experience as biostatistician for the technical-scientific secretariat of Ethics Committee of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region (CEUR), she supported principal investigators (P.I.) of clinical research studies (either interventional or observational) in writing study protocols. In particular, she provided support in defining the study design, selecting the study objectives and the corresponding outcomes, calculating the sample size, and planning statistical analysis. She also organized and held several training courses on clinical research topics.
During her research activity at Epidemiology and Biostatistics Unit of CRO-Aviano, she gained experience in the conduction of observational epidemiologic studies, including data management, statistical analysis, data interpretation, and dissemination of study results. These studies included: (a) multicentre case-control studies on cancer aetiology, with particular interest on the association between modifiable risk factors (e.g., obesity, diet) and the risk of several cancers; (b) retrospective cohort studies on the survival of patients after cancer onset (e.g., prostate, breast), with regard to the association between modifiable risk factors and prognosis; (c) population-based retrospective cohort studies on mortality of patients with AIDS, in collaboration with the National Institute of Health (ISS) and the National Institute of Statistics (ISTAT); (d) population-based studies on the impact of screening on cancer prevention (e.g., Pap-smear testing and cervical cancer), in collaboration with the Italian Cancer Registries Network (AIRTUM).
Antonella Zucchetto has been member of different working groups of several collaborative studies conducted by AIRTUM, the International projects EUROCARE, RARECARE, and CONCORD. She is also member of the “Continuous Update Project –CUP peer reviewers” of the World Cancer Research Found International (WCRF).
Antonella Zucchetto was the P.I. of a 2-year research project “Organized cervical cancer screening programs: evaluation of outcomes and critical points in Italian areas covered by population cancer registries”, funded by Fondazione Umberto Veronesi (2011).
She was also the P.I. of the 3-year research project “Screening history of invasive cervical cancer cases in Friuli Venezia Giulia”, funded by Italian Association for Research on Cancer (My first AIRC grant, Regional program 2008 – Friuli Venezia Giulia).
She is author/co-author of 97 published research papers, and member of the working group in 27 additional papers (H-index=35). She participated as a speaker/teacher to more than 40 conferences/courses, being the author of 63 published abstracts. She occasionally acts as peer reviewer for journals with Impact Factor. She is member of the Frontiers in Oncology editorial board (section: Cancer Epidemiology and Prevention; role: Review Editor).
