Bio:

Professor Joanne Aitken is a cancer epidemiologist and Head of the Viertel Cancer Research Centre at Cancer Council Queensland, Australia.  She has worked in public health for the past 25 years and leads a collaborative program of research in population-based cancer epidemiology. This is focussed on improving cancer diagnosis and early detection, childhood cancer registration, and understanding inequities in cancer outcomes through population cancer surveillance. She is Director of the Australian Childhood Cancer Registry, a member of the Advisory Council of Cancer Australia and President of the International Association of Cancer Registries. She has over 260 scientific publications and over 14,500 career citations. She lives with her family in Brisbane, Queensland where they enjoy conserving and replanting native forest and wildlife habitat.
